Still on my workout program Week 3…


I’ve gotten behind on my workout schedule. Week 3 has turned into Weeks 3&4. Now, I wasn’t skipping out, I just saw something shiny/physically challenging and gave it a try in place of my daily workout. NOW, I know consistency is key to reaching my fitness goals, so I am going to finish it out without substitutions. Which means no more shenanigans and I can finish on Saturday. Self-talk works for me…

What was yesterday’s shiny object? Well, nothing. Instead of downloading my workouts as recommended, I generally stream them… and today the internet didn’t play nice. So to get some exercise I decided to take a run. Hell, I’ve got a Santa Dash 5K coming up anyway, might as well give it a go.  So today the pup and I did 2.86 miles in 38 minutes. Great for me, maybe not so good for real runners, but we all have to start(over) somewhere.

So today’s victories are many. I didn’t let technology rule my life. The pup and I enjoyed a beautiful crisp Fall day. I burned a few calories and got my running started again. Not a bad way to improvise.

Otherwise, what’s up? We get married next week!! YAY! So trying to be the best me I can and keep this body moving.

When I wake up I can see abs! Then gravity sets in… but I’ve always said that I have got washboard abs, just have a few loads of laundry on top.

30 Days, 4lbs, and Forward Motion


img_4488January 2: I was embarrassed and distressed at how bad I looked, and honestly how bad I felt. Just look at the face in those two photos – it says a lot. You need to be happy with you. I am not happy in this body and I do not need one more person saying “you’re perfect the way you are.” That’s an excuse to be unhealthy and I will no longer make excuses or allow myself to be in lazy habits. I used to be beautifully curvy, now I’m lumpy and rolly. Curvy does not equal obese. Obese IS unhealthy no matter how you slice it.

February 2: Down 4lbs in 30 days – I’ll take it. Now, if I burned all of that at 3,500 calories per pound, that would be 14,000 calories burned. Now, a literal lb of fat and overall weight loss are different (water, proteins) but either way – #IAmWinning. I’ve been working out fairly consistently since 1 Jan, took my photo on 2 Jan, and started my #lowcarb #keto nutrition on 13 Jan (just felt right). This progress photo on 2 Feb. I see a little difference, but I FEEL the difference already in my clothes. I’ve got a long way to go, but I am proud of me. Sunday ends my current #ChallengeGroup and we start again on 13 Feb. Yes, all body types are different, but don’t lie to yourself. If you’re truly happy in your current state of health, then keep it up! Seriously?! OK, I know what you’re thinking, “she must have eaten a sundae everyday to not lose anything”, or that in combination with the usual “muscle weighs more than fat ”…

STOP. It’s not helpful, and sometimes you should just let me complain. {A valuable lesson I learned in the marriage counseling/divorce process.} Maybe don’t offer a solution when you don’t really know the answer, maybe someone needs to vent. Yes, I am guilty {via the ex-husband, the marriage counselor, and probably a friend or three} of being too positive, trying to fix problems, etc., and now I see how annoying it is!

DUH – I get it, live it, follow it…

I have been following the #21DayFix nutrition plan, which I truly believe in. I’ve been trying to cut calories, eat only fresh foods, and limiting carbs to oatmeal and those found in veggies, and clearly doing the literal legwork. I am 31 years old, not 51 and in the change of life. While I get that metabolism slows down after 30, this is re-damn-diculous.

Yes, I’ve recently been to the doctor and am going through a series of testing to hopefully find a solution. I won’t bank on anything medical being the problem. I just have to stick to the plan. If and when there are updates to that, I’ll write about it.

The point of me sharing this – to tell you not to give up.

Keep going. Don’t let the scale get you down. I am trying to keep the faith that something will change, something will give, and my body isn’t failing me. Nothing happens overnight, and there is no quick fix. It’s got to be willpower and determination.

One of my favorite quotes is from my beloved Tony Horton: “Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.” He’s right. You have to get out of the comfort zone, do something different, then do a little more. I am a runner by no means, but experts say the cardio is what I need to drop the weight…. So what did I do to motivate myself? I signed up for a ½ marathon in February and gave myself a secondary goal – just finish the race. I’ve never run that far, so I am going to work towards it.

Last Sunday I ran my longest distance yet – 6.8 miles. Might not be a lot for some of you, but it was a feat for me. I complained through it – I gritted my teeth, and towards the end I was just lumbering forward in a run-like motion. But I did it. So I am halfway there… and I’ve got to keep it up.

If I can do it, so can you. Do it with me for the motivation, accountability, adventure, and more. I think my year of “Why Not?!” Is going to be the mantra for the rest of my life… xoxo

P.S. Yes, I am still smiling. And I’m actually starting to love running!
